Portugal coach Fernando Santos opted to start the Switzerland game with star forward Ronaldo on the bench. The decision appeared to expose the attacking creativity in the team as Ronaldo’s replacement Goncalo Ramos scored a hat-trick. Ramos has scored 14 goals in 21 games for Benfica this season and lived up to his nickname O Feiticeiro – The Wizard against the Swiss. He will be a player Morocco will need to keep an eye on.

Portugal vs Morocco Match Results

Nothing shows his calm and collected spirit more than Moroccan and Paris Saint-Germain defensive stalwart Achraf Hakimi, who scored his winning penalty against Spain with the utmost composure.

Yassin “Bono” Bono, Morocco’s soft-spoken goalkeeper, was the hero of the match as Spain failed to score a single penalty in the shootout. He will need to continue that form despite Portugal’s red-hot attack.

It should be noted that Morocco is not only a defensive side. They also have plenty of creative flairs, including Chelsea’s Hakeem Zech and Sofiane Boufl, the former Southampton winger who has roasted Spain’s Marcos Llorente several times with his tricks.

Portugal also boasts an abundance of creative talent, with Manchester United’s Bruno Fernandes going forward and Manchester City’s Bernardo Silva in midfield.

Returning Paris Saint-Germain center Anillo Pereira remains a doubt for the game after breaking several ribs in training. However, Pepe, a 39-year-old veteran, performed well as a substitute and even scored a goal in Portugal’s 6-1 rout of Switzerland.

The two teams met twice in the World Cup. At the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, Morocco defeated Portugal 3–1 in the group stage. Ronaldo scored the only goal of the game at the 2018 World Cup in Russia as Portugal secured a vital three points to advance to the round of 16.

The 37-year-old, who has been surrounded by controversy in recent weeks, will be looking to cement his legacy by extending Portugal’s run at this World Cup, which will likely be his last. But history also beckons for Morocco. This is the stuff that breaks dreams and hearts.
